Day 1

21.8.2022.

Introducing the agency and getting to know Reyjkavik The first working day began already on Sunday afternoon when about 150 participants of various courses gathered in the large hall of the Centerhotel Plaza - Reyjkavik for a joint meeting where the director of the PMSE+ agency, Ángel Gallardo López, presented the agency and the upcoming courses. On the same day, a young Icelander presented Iceland. Mr. Lopez was very accommodating and available every day to all participants for various questions or ambiguities. The remaining part of Sunday could be spent on a guided walk and getting to know Reykjavik.

Day 2

22.8.2022.

Introduction, presentation, new digital tools, visit to Perlan The ICT course was led by a colleague, Manuel Escuder, a professor from Valencia, very kind, approachable and accommodating. He had a lot of patience for all the participants so that those who are afraid of new technologies, with Manuel's help, can break all prejudices. In a group of 16 ICT course participants, along with me from Croatia, colleagues from France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary participated in various activities. In addition to various dramatic games for getting to know each other and working in pairs and teams, we were also presented with some digital tools that we can use for work in class. The afternoon was reserved for the Perlan museum where you can see the wonders of Iceland. It is even possible to walk through the first indoor ice cave, 100 meters long and built from 350 tons of snow. The museum also has an interactive exhibition about Icelandic glaciers, as well as a Force of Nature exhibition where guests can experience the power of volcanoes, earthquakes and geothermal energy. There is also a planetarium where you can experience Icelandic nature through a breathtaking 360° masterpiece in one of the most sophisticated planetariums in the world. At the very top of the museum, which is famous for its unique dome, there is a deck with a 360° view of Reykjavík and the surrounding areas.

Day 3

23.8.2022.

Gamification and afternoon relaxation in the Blue Lagoon At the workshops, we were introduced to working with digital tools and resources needed to implement gamification in our schools regardless of levels or educational areas, motivational techniques made possible by gamification. Almost all 150 course participants in Reykjavik decided to spend the afternoon relaxing in one of the most popular attractions in Iceland that attracts people from all over the world, the Blue Lagoon. It is a geothermal spa on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwest Iceland. The Blue Lagoon is considered to have significant regenerative properties because the water is rich in silicon and sulfur.

Day 4

24.8.2022.

Creating a short film with the background of a fantasy world Divided into several teams, we shaped the film using Cap Cut and a green background to show our fantasy world featuring real-life characters. Cap Cut is a free video editor, that is, an application that allows you to edit videos in many ways, including adjusting brightness, contrast, lighting, color, special effects. As always, it is crucial to agree on the script and the message of the film, and everything else is easier to do. I was in a group with colleagues from France and Austria. We distributed the tasks within the team very well, and these tasks were sometimes a bit stunts, which caused a lot of laughter, which always comes in handy and connects people. All the teams did a great job and brought a lot of humor to their videos.

Day 5

25.8.2022.

Golden Circle and Blog Editing Day We got acquainted with a large number of digital tools, that is, with a large number of online applications. We would receive a certain task that we were supposed to do in a certain application, but present the results of our work to the whole group. We have learned about quick ways to edit a blog and various AV records. I would single out the Stop motion application. It is a very popular and simple digital tool for creating an animated film. It is, in fact, an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they appear to show independent movement or change when the sequence of frames is played back. Merge Cube is an interesting app made up of a black and silver cube that has inlaid designs that interact with various other Merge Cube apps to transform the cube into a digital canvas, be it a solar system, a body, or a pocket aquarium. With the help of the shirt, you can have an insight into the internal organs, etc. Visible body can be a useful application in biology lessons. For example, with the help of a free app and a t-shirt that you can buy with the app, you can have an insight into the internal organs while scanning the t-shirt with your tablet. The afternoon was dedicated to a half-day trip for the course participants. We are familiar with the popular The Golden Circle. The trio that make up the Golden Circle is the historic Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO heritage site, the magnificent Gullfoss or Golden Waterfall, a powerful twin waterfall that takes your breath away. There is also the legendary Geysir, a bubbling hot spring that shoots boiling hot water into the air. Considering the rich volcanic area, this region is also full of geysers, special types of geothermal springs whose main characteristic is the sudden ejection of hot water and steam. The geyser effect occurs precisely because of the proximity of the magma to the surface.

Day 6

26.8.2022.

The final day of the course and the search for whales On the final day, we presented our videos that we edited throughout the week and selected the best ones. The best teams were awarded with famous Icelandic sweets. Friday evening ended with whale watching. There are several agencies that take their boats from Reykjavik to whale watching in the Atlantic. Whales have been a significant part of Iceland's history since its settlement in the late 9th century. As an example, the Icelandic word for a stroke of luck is "hvalreki" which literally translates to "beached whale". Whaling has been practiced in Iceland along with fishing for centuries, and today whale watching is essential to any trip to Iceland, just like seeing the northern lights, hot springs and glaciers.

Day 7

27.8.2022.

South coast of Iceland The southern coast is known for its black beaches. They appear in places that once had strong volcanic activity or are in the vicinity of still active volcanoes. Iceland is a famous land of 1000 waterfalls. Of particular note are the magical Seljalandsfoss, next to which it is impossible to stay dry, as well as the 62-meter-high and 25-meter-wide Skógafoss, which is filled with water from the glacier. We had the opportunity to reach a glacier. You can climb numerous Icelandic glaciers, which are mostly located in its interior, accompanied by expert guides. Internal rivers and caves are often found in glaciers. In the largest glacier, Langjökull, a tunnel extends up to 300 meters below its surface. CURIOUS THINGS ABOUT ICELAND The Land of Fire and Ice is a small country of great extremes: the largest glaciers and numerous volcanoes, erupting geysers and world-famous waterfalls, magical black beaches and the aurora borealis. This country is often called the country of the happiest people precisely because of its political freedoms, social equality, connection with nature and the nurturing of old legends that still today inspire beliefs in magical beings. Iceland, a country with no railways, has the oldest parliament in the world, no army, and the police are unarmed due to low crime rates. The Icelandic language has remained unchanged from the ancient Norse language, which means that texts 1000 years old can be read without any problems. Today, about 350,000 people live in Iceland, of which even 60% live in the capital, Reykjavik, which is very colorful, relaxed and the safest city in Europe. Reyjkavik is surrounded by sea and mountains, filled with colorful houses and cafes where books are a fundamental part of the interior. Per capita, Iceland sells the most books. In fact, they also have the most authors of any country in the world. As many as 10% of Icelanders will publish a book once in their lifetime. According to statistics, Iceland is the safest country in the world, but also the least populated country in Europe.
